Mentorship Session Diary. Entry 13
The importance of setting goals may not be apparent, until we make the commitment to do it. Setting goals for ourselves is a way to set ourselves up for success by keeping us focused, on track and prepared to take next steps. We may have grand goals about who we want to be and where we want to go in the future. It’s important to remember that we can also use goals in our everyday life to keep pushing ourselves forward.
When we break our large goals into segments, we can take attainable and realistic steps towards reaching our ultimate dream. This is also a way to avoid getting overwhelmed and losing motivation for achieving what we know we really want. When we set large goals and don’t implement any steps to achieve them, we are setting ourselves up for disappointment. Setting smaller goals can help us build a routine and develop a process that works for us to continue working hard and finding success.
We can use this method to benefit our personal lives, not just our work or school lives. When we set and accomplish goals, it makes it easier to set time aside for ourselves and find the necessary balance between personal and professional life. Goals don’t have to be just about specific tasks. They can help us manage our priorities, our emotions and how we spend the time in the day.
By setting goals, we can be confident that we have a plan for the future. When we aren’t achieving the goals we set, it can indicate to us that we need to make a change. When we are making the effort to work towards our goals and have the discipline to hold ourselves accountable, we know that we will always achieve success in the end.
