Please share what the Bursary program has meant for you so far in your post-secondary journey (mentorship, financial aid, career assistance)
The bursary program has supported me in so many ways that are not limited to financial aid. The biweekly Saturday mentorship sessions are always the highlight of my week; I leave every meeting feeling empowered and ready to make meaningful changes in not only my life but the world. Through events such as the Youth Lead Conference, I have been able to network with professionals in my field and create lasting connections.
Any comments you would like to share about being matched with the Black Legend that your September 2023 Bursary was named after.
The Black Legend that I was matched with for my September 2023 Bursary was Kayla Grey. I am proud to be matched with Ms. Grey as she is a role model to young Black women across Canada. She continues to pave the way for Black women in sport, media, and journalism, demonstrating that black voices and perspectives deserve a seat at the table and need to be heard.
2023 Academic/Personal Highlight
One of my highlights of 2023 was becoming a GTA Regional Mentor at my university. As a Regional Mentor, I am able to help students navigate the difficulties of adjusting to life at university, assist them in course enrolment/management, and direct them to other services and resources. This job has been very rewarding as I have been able to pour into students in the same way the bursary program pours into me.
